When was harrogate district hospital built
The existing link corridor back to the main hospital was removed, and a new two storey area of traditional construction connected the modular building back to the main hospital, interfacing with existing buildings on all sides. At ground floor, the new accommodation re-provided a corridor link between Maxillofacial and the main hospital, whilst the first floor forms part of a new Endoscopy suite.
Beyond the extent of traditional construction, a new storey of modular accommodation, located directly above the ground floor accommodation, but over-sails in two directions due to the larger footprint required for delivery of endoscopy services. They were fortified in their views by a report on the matter by a noted expert on hospital construction, Colonel Mackintosh. A survey of the neighbourhood was then made to find an alternative site.
Many were considered. Here an area of seven acres was purchased and later generously offered free by Capt C S Greenwood, the president of the hospital. The last was finally decided upon as being in the centre of what was foreseen to be in the future a thickly populated area it was then open fields, on a main road, easily accessible, serving Harrogate and Starbeck and affording ample space for future development.
The convalescent home was built in a French Chateau style. Police convalescent home built in to designs by Chorley, Connon and Chorley. It comprised a two-storey stone house with a three-bay pedimented centre and four-bay in-line wings. The home had a bowling green and cricket ground.
