Thank you Hali. Don't be fooled by the towns country charm. Sure the place probably has some nice people but it's also has some nasty trouble making gossipers. Just like most other towns. Be very careful who you invite into your home and life. I've been a resident hr. Moved up from Pakenham 8 years ago onto a small parcel of land. Took me awhile to get used to but once settled realised its a great little town. Although Drouin doesnt boast the best in restaurants Warragul is only 10 min down the road.
I like drouin because you can still find plenty of carparking around Xmas. There are also more cafe's and crafty shops popping up. On the down side rent is increasing because people are moving up here escaping the busy towns. There is plenty of childcare, realestates, schools, churches, supermarkets, bakerys, banks, pizza and fish n chip shops.
There is a great country market once a month in beautiful Civic Park where you can find plenty of carparking. Trains right in the middle of the towns CBD. Nice place to live, people are friendly. Little or no violence. Nothing unusual for country towns these days. Chow shopping is plentiful. Very peaceful, friendly town - refreshing change from overcrowded, popular Mornington Peninsula. Losing the bogon element as property values increase and more people make the country change to acreages.
Probably too quiet for teenagers but easily accessable to Melbourne by freeway or train. Great for young families, empty nesters and retirees. Quality restaurants and cafes and excellent choice of schools in the surrounding areas. A variety of supermarkets and retail shopping and close to larger shopping precinct in Warragul for cinemas and specilised retail needs.
Overall a very nice place to live with beautiful views of Mt Baw Baw and commuting distance to large employment areas and the city for cultural entertainment. My wife and I moved from the city 2 years ago and have never looked back. The people here are very friendly and family oriented and welcomed us into our street and we have made some great friends here.
We go to Melb at least once a fortnight for visiting and a day out. Warragul has some fabulous restaurants and especially nice chinese food. The crime rate is very low and we all look out for each other in an old fashioned way, that you wont find in Melb.
