Can i drink moderately
Or even forty nights. So how can you make moderate drinking work? People who have given up drinking for the reasons above such as no off-switch, binge drinking, health, or just general bad behaviour, have had to re-programme their brains to break down patterns and disassociate from the habitual behaviours that we all form — it takes hard work and determination to succeed and not throw the towel in at any given opportunity. For this reason, many non-drinkers are not comfortable with the concept of moderate drinking.
In fact, whilst the social stigma is perhaps lessened for someone who does partake in occasional mindful drinking, the effort of self-control is possibly more complicated and harder to execute — particularly for someone who has struggled with their off-switch. How do you cope? Again, sound familiar?
But imposing your opinion on someone else and never being able to form the understanding that what works for you may not work for someone else, is truly unhelpful for everyone.
I moderately drink now and I have done for almost a year and a half. I was a non-drinker for three years after being a dangerous no off-switch binge drinker for the majority of my drinking career — which spanned fourteen years. Studies have shown that females begin having alcohol-related problems at lower levels of alcohol consumption than males. Females have less water in their bodies than males, pound-for-pound.
Alcohol disperses in body water. Women generally weigh less than men. The threshold for safe alcohol consumption is closely linked to body weight. Women have less tissue with which to absorb alcohol. Women usually have lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenase AHD than men.
AHD is a chemical that breaks down alcohol in the liver. Hormonal factors may also play a role in making women more susceptible to the effects of alcohol. Studies have found that with the same amount of drink, blood alcohol concentrations are at their highest just before menstruation and at their lowest on the first day after menstruation.
However, these studies were very limited , and no confirmed conclusion has been reached on the link between menstruation and alcohol absorption. When trying to moderate alcohol intake over the course of an evening or a week, it helps to know how much alcohol is in each drink you consume.
However, many of the messages are mixed. While some studies advise that alcohol in moderation can have some heart benefits, others explain the associated higher risk of heart damage, cancer , mental health problems, and liver disease. When studies show the harm associated with consuming alcohol, they nearly always refer to binge drinking, alcohol abuse, or alcoholism. Stroke : A study published in the journal Stroke found that light-to-moderate alcohol consumption may lower the risk of stroke in women.
Another study found that one component in red wine may protect the brain from stroke damage. Depression: In a study of 2, men and 2, women aged between 55 and 80 years, Spanish researchers found that regular, moderate wine drinking might reduce the risk of developing depression , while heavy drinking increases the risk. The investigators reported in the journal BMC Medicine that people who drank from 2 to 7 glasses of wine per week were much less likely to be diagnosed with clinical depression.
To drink is like being allergic to bees. An alcoholic will go on a spree or bender and usually will not stop until a consequence jolts them back to reality. Sometimes, an alcoholic can drink one or two.
Sometimes alcoholics can stay dry for long periods of time. One story in the Big Book of a year-old man who would go on drinking sprees. Once he started drinking he had no control.
He decided that he would focus on business and he remained dry for 25 years. Though a robust man at retirement, he went to pieces quickly and was dead within four years. The bottom line is that if you are truly an alcoholic, you cannot moderate your drinking.
The short answer is that true alcoholics cannot drink in moderation.
